Pastor's Weekly Recap, week of August 31, 2008
Family Recap for Aug 31, 2008
As I write to you this morning, I am still replaying much of what Anne and I experienced over the weekend. We were teaching at a couple’s retreat at Deeper Life Bible Camp in Blackduck. We re-established friendships with those we had met last year and made new friendships with several others who came this year. The focus of this Bible Camp is born out in the lives of the people who lead the camp – it’s all about relationships. We spent a good bit of time in close wonderful conversations with each other. The schedule was very flexible, the teaching sessions encouraging, the food delicious and the people – the people – what a wonderful time. I truly hope you married couples will seriously consider going next year over the Labor Day weekend.
Many of you were taking advantage of the last hoorah of the summer and I hope you had a very blessed weekend. I also hope that you will make it a point to obtain a copy of Kevin’s message on Sunday as he used the recent trip to Osnaburgh as a means to pointing out the call of God on us to be disciples of Jesus committed to carrying out his mandate on our lives.
News at a glance
Finah! – “Jonah – it’s not about a big fish” – This Wed we shall look at the final chapter of Jonah one that holds a great deal of insight into the character of God. The book itself seems to end abruptly – why? Are we missing something? Well I think we shall see that God had intended it to end this way and wants us to see it clearly. Come and join us for this final look at Jonah.
New! – “Wising Up – Wherever Life Happens”– Ladies the fall bible study will begin on Wed., Sept 17 at 9:30 am and Thurs., Sept 18 at 6:30 pm. All ladies are invited. There is no workbook required for this study in the book of Proverbs so make plans to join with a host of others for this exciting journey. Any questions can be addressed to Anne at 721-3359.
New! – “Friendship Club Resumes”– Sept 17 at 6:30 pm will be the start of the fall kids program. This year a special class will be held for those in 5-6th grade. Mike and Jan will continue to work with kids in the k-4th grade and Molly and Heather will be working with those in 5-6th grade.
New – “LIFEtime Learning Classes” – This Sunday at 8:30 am begins our fall season of LIFEtime learning. I want you to put away the idea of Sunday School for a moment because all to often we think of Sunday School is for kids and that is not what we are striving to do. We believe that we never attain that level in our Christian lives where we can say “That’s it, I’ve arrived.” LIFEtime learning is designed to assist you (regardless of age) into becoming ALL that God desires for you. I encourage you to join us this and every Sunday.
Repeat – “Prayer Chain” – We are currently updating our prayer chain and if you would like to be a part of it, please fill out the sign up sheet that is located on the literature table and then put it in the response box. This is a vital ministry and is called upon numerous times during the course of the year. Instructions and guidelines are outlined on the sign up sheet. Early in September the chain will be formed and each person will be notified. If you have any questions contact Carol Ringold (coordinator) or Lori Bergholm (back up).
Revised – “CLASS 101-Introduction to Church Membershjp” – This is the introduction class to who we are as a church and what we are all about. Two options have been provided (one will be selected). Sat., Sept 13th from 8-noon or Sun., Sept 14th from 5-8 pm. I would highly recommend this class to everyone regardless of whether or not you feel led of the Lord to become “official” members of the church. Registration is needed to ensure adequate materials. There is no charge for this class.
Repeat – “The Truth Project” – We will once again be showing the “Truth Project” series beginning Wednesday Sept 17th at 6:30 pm. What an excellent opportunity to solidify your faith by enhancing your Biblical World View. This is excellent stuff and I highly recommend it to you and to anyone you may call a friend!
Repeat – “What In The World Is This World Coming To”– That’s the theme for a new series beginning Sept 7th – We are going to look at the Olivet Discourse in Matt 24 – 25. Don’t miss it, as I think it will be both timely and challenging as we face the days ahead.
Revised – Advanced notice! - Last week in the recap I listed the various ministry positions that are up for election this fall at our congregational meeting. I also listed the current ministry leaders and should have made a few clarifications. The list of persons does not mean they are “automatically” being nominated to that position again. Therefore in this listing, I have purposefully not provided the names of current leaders. You are asked to nominate whom you believe God would want in that position. Nominations are to be made in writing and given to our Church chair Ron McVean. The individual will then be contacted to see if they sense God’s leading to be available in that position. A final ballot will be presented to the congregation before the meeting so that you can prayerfully consider each person and position. The following ministry leaders will be on the ballot this year
In addition individuals can be nominated
for the position of Elder – however before doing so it would be wise
to consult the booklet “A Biblical View of Elders” which is on the
literature table.
Finally – Congratulations to Wesley and Corrine (Mosier)
Brush who were united in marriage
on August 28th!
It is a joy to be your pastor!
