Pastor's Weekly Recap, week of August 24, 2008
Family Recap for Aug 24, 2008
What a day it was! On Saturday, it looked like the wind, clouds and perhaps storms might threaten our plans for the outdoor service, but God wonderfully cleared away the skies and blessed us with a most beautiful day. I believe we had a great picnic especially in light of the definition I gave you. I hope those of you who came had good fellowship with one another and shared in each others lives a bit. There were so many to lent a hand to make yesterday such a hit. I will not venture out to name each one, but you can rest assured that your service to the Lord did not go unnoticed by Him. This coming Sunday, Anne and I will be out of town, speaking at the couple’s retreat. Pastor Kevin will speaking on Sunday.
This will be our last summer service for on September 7th we will begin our fall season which includes LIFEtime learning. This fall looks to be a wonderful time here at the chapel – a good place to bring your friends. Children, youth and adult programs all designed to carry out what we believe God ha called us to do “Lift up the name of Jesus as we love others into the family, link with them in fellowship, lead them to maturity and launch them into ministry.” For sure this purpose will never be carried out unless we all work together. I hope we can count on you to do your part.
News at a glance
Repeat – “Jonah – it’s not about a big fish” – Join us Wednesday evening 6:30 pm as we continue our study in this familiar story. It’s not to late to come, even if you haven’t been able to come previous. The conversation is great as we talk about this old old story.
New - MEN – BOYS – OF ALL AGES – Come to dinner on Tuesday, Aug 26th at 6:00 pm – bring a snack to share – We have an exciting idea we’d like to share with you! Special guest will be Gary Gagnon will share some of his experiences in running Grandma’s marathon. We will also begin a Fantasy Football league for those who would like. The food will be great, but the fellowship we have with one another will be far greater.
Revised – “LIFEtime Learning Classes” – On Sunday, September 7th we will begin our fall educational ministry called LIFEtime learning (Learning Intimacy From Eachother). Classes for all age levels will run from 8:30 am to 9:20 am. There are two classes being planned for adults. One class entitled “Tough Questions” will be led by Dale VanDoren and will focus on a number of timely questions that you may have or have been asked such as “How could God allow Suffering and evil?” A second class is called “Freedom in Christ” and is designed to assist you in experiencing the fullness of the Christian life and finding release and freedom from the struggles we face in everyday living. I cannot encourage you strongly enough to be a part of LIFEtime learning. It truly is NOT just for kids!
Repeat – “Prayer Chain” – We are currently updating our prayer chain and if you would like to be a part of it, please fill out the sign up sheet that is located on the literature table and then put it in the response box. This is a vital ministry and is called upon numerous times during the course of the year. Instructions and guidelines are outlined on the sign up sheet. Early in September the chain will be formed and each person will be notified. If you have any questions contact Carol Ringold (coordinator) or Lori Bergholm (back up).
Revised – “CLASS 101-Introduction to Church Membershjp” – This is the introduction class to who we are as a church and what we are all about. Two options have been provided (one will be selected). Saturday, September 13th from 8-noon or Sunday, September 14th from 5-8 pm. I would highly recommend this class to everyone regardless of whether or not you feel led of the Lord to become “official” members of the church. A sign up sheet is on the literature table so that adequate materials can be made available or you can reply to this email with your choice of dates.. There is no charge for this class.
Repeat – “The Truth Project” – We will once again be showing the “Truth Project” series beginning Wednesday September 17th at 6:30 pm. What an excellent opportunity to solidify your faith by enhancing your Biblical World View. This is excellent stuff and I highly recommend it to you and to anyone you may call a friend!
New – “What In The World Is This World Coming To”– That’s the theme for a new series beginning Sept 7th – We are going to look at the Olivet Discourse in Matt 24 – 25. Don’t miss it, as I think it will be both timely and challenging as we face the days ahead.
